ComfortMaxx is the first HVAC industry program that allows
contractors to document real
system performance and get
third party certification on their
installations and system renovations.
At the heart of the program is
a unique online verification system
developed and managed by
National Comfort Institute.
In addition to third-party verification
NCI provides the training
and support to help insure
contractor success with the program.
The verification system is based
on NCI's CSER™ (Cooling System
Efficiency Rating) and HSER™
(Heating System Efficiency Rating)
system rating methods.
NCI developed a reliable field
method to measure delivered
Btus to the conditioned space
and compare this number to the
Btus the system is capable of
delivering.
Bottom Line: The typical
HVAC system operates at a
delivered efficiency of less
than 65%. After a ComfortMaxx contractor renovates
the system the average delivered
efficiency exceeds
93%.
1. Evaluate field performance by measuring the Btus delivered to the space and
compare it to the equipment-rated Btus.
|
2. Diagnose the causes of reduced performance
and prescribe the solutions. |
3. Sell and perform the work to bring the
system to the peak performance level it
can achieve within the customer's budget.
|
4. Test out and balance the system to
verify and insure it is performing as
promised. |
The second essential component is a third party entity (NCI) who created a simple
and effective on-line verification and fulfillment system that: |
1. Provides field forms and procedures for
the entire process and captures the data
though an easy to use online program. |
2. Authorizes the certification and labeling
of a system that meets or exceeds the
Comfortmaxx standard. |
3. Maintains a secure national database
of HVAC system information and provides
you with statistics on your local market. |
4. Sends the homeowner a certificate, owner's manual and material to encourage ongoing maintenance to keep their
system operating at peak performance. |
Superior Benefits to Your Customers
Confidence That They're Getting What They Paid For
One of the key consumer benefits of a ComfortMaxx
Certified System™ is the knowledge that the
contractor will provide written proof based on measurement
and documentation that their new system
is operating at the peak performance that was promised.
Real Energy Savings and Comfort
At the core of the ComfortMaxx certification are the
CSER™ and HSER™ ratings based on the percentage
of Btus that actually get delivered into the
conditioned space, compared to the Btu rating of
the equipment. This truly is where the rubber meets
the road. It reveals what portion of every utility
dollar is benefiting the homeowner, and whether
their system can maintain adequate comfort levels.
Equipment Lasts Longer and Has Fewer Problems
Since a ComfortMaxx Certified System™ has been
thoroughly tested and adjusted, the equipment will
operate with less stress and strain on its components
- in other words it will operate as close to
factory specified conditions as possible. This also
helps insure the equipment will run longer with
fewer breakdowns and lower repair costs.
Higher Home Resale Value
A ComfortMaxx Certified System™ provides potential
buyers with proof of its superior performance and
lower utility bills than similar size homes. A ComfortMaxx home is listed in a national database as one of
the most efficient homes in the country and is more
comfortable than most homes that typically experience
temperature differences from one room to
another by as much as 5 to 10 degrees--or more.
Consumer
Promotion
As a participant in the ComfortMaxx program
you will have access to a variety of
consumer based promotional material to
help you sell the service
Use the ComfortMaxx informational pamphlet
(above) to help promote the program and
extra service you can provide.
NCI also offers a dynamic 8 pg program
brochure to help you sell long term ComfortMaxx services and keep existing customers
coming back for more. Click Here for Other Information.
HVAC Contractor Benefits
Whether you are in the service and replacement business, new construction, or both, ComfortMaxx can truly
enhance your offerings and differentiate your company in your marketplace.
Differentiates You on a Sales Call
When you sell replacement systems using the
ComfortMaxx label, you're offering your customer
something few competitors will be able
to provide: Proof that you will deliver what
you promise. This proof is based on performing
unique diagnostics involving the customer
every step of the way, and basing your recommendations
on overcoming the existing system's
deficiencies. This approach truly empowers the
customer to make an educated buying decision
and dismisses most of your competition right
from the start.
Gives You Third-Party Credibility
Because ComfortMaxx is a third-party program it
helps assure the customer that what you are teaching
them is real and not just some new sales technique
you cooked up. You can even take them online
to educate them on the process.
Add Service Value and
Charge What it's Worth
Because you're adding real value that few others can offer,
you can price your work based on what it's worth. You're
not just selling labor at a meager mark-up. Often times by
raising total system performance your work can pay for
itself in energy savings in just a couple of years, not to
mention the comfort improvements you can provide.
What Can ComfortMaxx™ Do For
Your Business?
Locks in Long Term
Maintenance
Along with a ComfortMaxx Certificate
stating the rated efficiency of their
system and percentage improvement NCI
sends your customer literature reinforcing
the value of their certification and the
importance of having you maintain their
system to insure it continues to operate
at peak performance levels to maintain
system certification.

Increases The Value of
Your Customer's Home
A ComfortMaxx system performs
in the top 5% of HVAC systems in
the country. Along with the proof of
energy savings through their utility
bills, your customer will be able to
show the certificate and labeling to prospective buyer and differentiate
their home from other similar homes
in their neighborhood.
Getting Started With ComfortMaxx From NCI
There are five main components to the Program:
Here's a brief overview on each of these components
1. Enrollment
ComfortMaxx™ is not an exclusionary program as there are no protected territories,
exorbitant franchise fees, etc. However, a ComfortMaxx contractor must
meet the qualifications outlined below to be accepted into the program:
A. The contractor must employ one or more NBI certified technicians
B. Must be a member in good standing of
National Comfort Team (NCT)
C. Must possess the required tools and
instruments
D. Must agree to the terms and
conditions of the ComfortMaxx
program and the program's Code of Ethics
2. Test In and Perform The Work
On a new construction project, this step takes place
in the design/installation phase where you fill in
a ComfortMaxx form with both design and actual
measurements both before and after the system is
adjusted and balanced. If you're replacing an existing,
operational system, the first step is measuring the
existing system performance to provide a baseline for
percentage improvement. Next you would perform the installation and or duct
renovation work.
3. Test Out and Label The System
Once you adjust and balance the system and perform
a final test to determine if the system's CSER™ or
HSER™ and room by room air flow requirements have
been met, if the system passes, you can label the
system with provided labels and stickers.
4. Submit Final Report Online
The next step is to log onto ComfortMaxx.com and
enter the label information and your field reports. The
system will check your work, and if the system meets
the minimum criteria, it will achieve ComfortMaxx
certification.
5. Consumer Fulfillment
A hard copy certificate will be mailed to the home
owner along with a congratulatory letter from NCI
and literature describing the value of the certification
and the importance of proper, regular maintenance by
your company to keep the system operating at peak
performance. After your customer receives certificate,
be sure to follow up with an annual maintenance
agreement offer.
A Few Words On
Confidentiality
NCI has worked with thousands
of contractors over the years,
regularly receiving reports with
sensitive customer information.
We are very aware and respectful
of the need to keep your customer
information confidential.
Therefore we will not share specific
customer information with
outside organizations, companies
or utilities unless you specifically
request and authorize certain
information to be released to a
specific entity.
Program
Costs
While there's no enrollment
fee, franchise fees or monthly
fees, there is a fixed fee of
$50 per label to help offset the
cost of the program. This fee is based on an initial
estimated cost to administer
the program and may change
as the program matures based
on real expenses. ComfortMaxx is not a government or utility subsidized
program. It was not developed
with funds from a grant or
other government funding. It's a purely voluntary freemarket
program based on providing
direct measurable value - one customer at a time. The other benefit of a voluntary
program like this is it's not
reduced to a “lowest common
denominator - anyone can
qualify to do it” program. It requires a real commitment
from the contractor to be a cut
above the typical HVAC company
out there. The net result
is true differentiation.
Enroll Now, Here's How!
The enrollment process begins with a simple application form
where you provide basic company information along with some
specific information about your qualifications that meet the
requirements described above.
Contractors who do not hold NCI certifications or are not NCT
members may begin the application process, but will only
become enrolled once they meet the program criteria. There
is no application fee at this time. All qualifying applicants are
welcome.
